November 15, 2014 – Regional 8th Henkel Innovation Competition Semi-finals in Dubai

INTERLINK at Al Yamamah University students Ohoud AlArifi and Maha Aba AlKhail won first place overall in the 8th Henkel Innovation Competition held in Dubai, February 19th, 2015. This win makes the students eligible to compete in the finals held in Vienna in April, 2016 where they will be given the chance to secure jobs with Henkel. As stated by Henkel’s Head of Human Resources, “the Henkel Innovation Challenge is one of several Henkel initiatives designed to celebrate innovation. Our aim is to recognize and nurture young talent and recruit them as new members of the Henkel family.” Competing as “Team Persil Eco-Gent” Ohoud and Maha’s concept was a detergent that cleans both water and clothes, where water is recycled and can be reused. “It is a privilege to be able to participate in a prestigious competition like this and present our ideas in front of a jury of this caliber. Winning was just the icing on the cake,” stated Ohoud.

First International Conference on ELT Motivation

On 15th November 2014, SILC hosted the 1st International Conference on Motivation in ELT at Al Yamamah University. This was a stimulating event with some 40 speakers from several countries. Leaders in ELT shared innovative ideas, rich experience and their best practice for the best outcomes in the classroom. The conference featured two plenary presentations, workshops, talks and poster presentations. Educators from all over the world shared in discussions on how to motivate their learners inside the classroom and beyond. Plenary presentations were given by Professor Neil  J. Anderson and Professor  Dudley Reynolds. These ELT experts encouraged teachers to reflect on their teaching and motivational practices and inspired dialogue on motivation in ELT that will continue for years to come.
